Russell H. Spradley (affectionately known as Angel) gained his wings on Monday, November 22, 2021, in the Reading Hospital in West Reading, Pa.
Angel was born on November 5, 1954, in Washington, D.C. He was the son of the late Joann (Spradley) Copeland and Stepfather James Copeland.
Angel was a graduate of Reading Senior High School in Reading, Pa. He was a member of the Red Knights Football Team and Track Team. He had a sense of humor and loved to dance. He had a caring and giving spirit and always saw the good in everyone and was not an author of any confusion. His favorite saying was “You’re right about that!”
Angel had a huge love for drag racing. He, his uncle’s Phillip (Buck) Spradley, and Robert Sr. would travel to national events every year.
A music lover of R&B, Soul, Jazz, and Blues, he started his own disco service with his cousin, the late Johnny Branford. He later ran the business with his soulmate, Cheryl Garnett.
Angel was employed by Dana Corporation from 1983-2000. He was also employed at the Reading Area Community College and the Reading High Night School as a Security Guard and the Reading Hospital in the Housekeeping Dept.
Angel was a longtime brother of Berks Lodge No. 47, I.B.P.O. E. of W. in Reading, Pa. where he served as the Steward for many years.
Angel was preceded in death by his Grandparents Granville Price and Bulah Spradley-Price, Parents, and longtime companion, Cheryl Garnett.
Angel is survived by his brothers; Earl King of Sinking Spring, Pa., Melvin Spradley of Philadelphia, Pa., one sister; Vanessa Spradley of Reading, Pa., his children; Latrice Jackson of Philadelphia, Pa., Victor Garipoli of Hamburg, Pa., Octavia, wife of William Ward of Petersburg, Virginia, Kelvin Tyson and Ryan (Garnett) Spradley, both of Reading, Pa., Tyler Spradley of Petersburg, Virginia and his godson and namesake, Russell L. Spradley of Reading, Pa., 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and two on the way, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
