Mother Allean C. (Hines) Smith was born March 15, 1931 in Winston Salem, North Carolina to the late Carl E. Hines Sr. and Rosa A. (Martin) Hines. Allean received her education in Winston Salem, NC. and Reading Senior High School in Reading PA.
Allean was employed at Berks Heim nursing home retiring after 25 plus years of service. She gave her life to the Lord at a young age and was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ in Reading, where she served in various capacities for many years, under the leadership of her brother-in-law, the late Pastor James H. Glimp. After retiring from her job, Mother Smith, her sister the late Mother Hazel Glimp, and the late Mother Emma Hudson began Mt. Zion’s noonday prayer. Mother Smith loved serving the Lord, loved reading and studying his word and loved being around the church. Mother Smith loved working around the church and whatever her hands found to do in the house of the Lord she did it with a joyful heart. During Mt. Zion’s morning worship services Mother Smith would read God’s words of promise with such power. You could feel the anointing of the Holy Spirit as she read those passages. A few of her favorite scriptures could be found in Psalms 1, Psalms 27, and Psalms 91. Mother Smith also loved to play her tambourine and sing to the glory of God. She continued her service to Mt. Zion under the leadership of her nephew Pastor Kevin S. Glimp.
In addition to her local church Mother Smith was a devoted supporter of various ministries committed to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ as well as a number of charitable organizations. We believe many lives have been touched and souls won to Christ through the prayer life of Mother Smith.
Mother Smith loved to travel, going to church conventions, train rides across the country, cruises, amusement parks, and visiting family. She loved going out to eat every Sunday after morning worship. She loved watching Jimmy Swaggert on TV and listening to gospel music and the preached word.
Allean leaves to mourn three daughters: Tammy R. (Smith) Britt, wife of Phillip Britt; Mary (Person) Britt, wife of David Britt; and Barbara Person, one daughter in law, Evelyn M. Hines, wife of the late Curtis V. Hines Sr., one son William Person, husband of Betty Person.
One very special cousin Mother Mildred Robertson, Tampa, Florida who called each other sister.
Twelve Grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren survive her.
Allean is predeceased by her husband James E. Smith after 58 years of marriage; predeceased by three sons; Curtis V. Hines Sr., Todd C. Smith and Rodney Smith.
