It is with profound sorrow that we share the passing of Luis Alberto Torres, a devoted father, loving husband, and steadfast servant of the Most High. He left this world on March 22, 2025, at Jefferson Abington Hospital in Abington, Pennsylvania.
Born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, on August 11, 1960, Luis was the cherished eldest son of the late Alberto Torres and Rosa Maria Nieves. He is now reunited in spirit with his beloved wife, Sulma 'Stephanie' Cruz.
Raised in Philadelphia, “The City of Brotherly Love,” Luis attended the historic Thomas A. Edison High School. A graduate of Horeb Bible Institute in 1988 via The Church of God of the Seventh Day, he became an ordained Minister. He then became certified as an Automotive Repair Technician, specializing in automotive body/fender repair and restoration.
Luis found his love for God, accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He then began serving within the Mennonite Church as a musician, bus driver, Leader of the Men’s Society Group, Youth Counselor, and Missionary.
Luis cultivated his passion for serving God, and his spirit was burdened for God’s children. In 1986, he branched out his missionary outreach to the city of Reading, PA, then relocated in 1992 with his family as the people he worked with expressed the need for their Spiritual Leader to be closer to home and have a fixed place of worship. He then officially began his role as Pastor, leading his flock for the next 12 years.
Luis built a successful career as a Diesel Mechanic with BARTA until he retired. In 2009, he moved to Deltona, Florida, to be closer to his loved ones. In his later years, he dedicated himself to community outreach in Philadelphia with The Table Ministry alongside his best friend and co-founder, Ben Rosario.
Luis had a passion for cooking, turning every dinner into a love-filled feast. A valued part of Trinity Church in Deltona, Florida, he was known for his warm spirit. Each morning, you'd find Luis in his garden, a vital haven for the ‘little man with a big appetite’ that his loved ones fondly called 'PacMan’. A true sports fan, Luis cheered for his Eagles and Phillies with unmatched enthusiasm, lighting up the atmosphere with his infectious zeal.
Over his forty years in the Ministry, Luis took a special interest in working with those who are frequently overlooked: the sick, the lame, the homeless, and the orphaned. Those who knew him deemed him a simple man who was humble and non-judgmental and was the living embodiment of Agape (selfless love). Luis served as a beacon of light; a source of inspiration and compassion, who reminded all of God’s promise and love through his unwavering faith.
May his memory be a source of strength and inspiration to us all as we continue to walk in our faith.
Honoring Luis’ memory and carrying forth his Legacy are: Siblings: Diana, Marisol, and George Torres. Children: Daniel Ortiz, Pedro Ortiz, Luis Alberto Torres Jr., Deborah Torres, and Damaris Torres. Additionally, Luis leaves behind 22 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-grandson due June 2025, countless nieces, nephews, and spiritual children.
