Janet Johnson Obituary

Janet Dorothy Johnson, 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Penn State Health, in Reading, Pennsylvania. She was the beloved widow of Robert Johnson III, with whom she shared many devoted years of marriage.

Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, Janet was the daughter of Lucille Beckett. She attended local schools and later completed her education through homeschooling.

Janet was a dedicated and hardworking woman. She was employed by Berks Heim as a nurse’s aide and also worked at Community General Hospital, where she served in housekeeping and the mailroom.

A woman of strong faith, Janet was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Temple before later joining New Hope Baptist Church. There, she served on the kitchen committee and sang faithfully in the choir.

Janet will forever be remembered for her cornbread. No one—and we mean no one—dared bring “inferior” cornbread when Janet was around. That was her calling, her ministry, and her expertise—and she delivered it every time.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Steven E. Kelly of Reading, and her daughter, Theresa Kelly Figueroa (Albert) of Blandon.

She is also survived by her grandson, David Anthony of New York, and his children: Jalen Anthony, Jiovanni Anthony, Treyvon Hayden, and Terrance Hayden. Additional grandchildren include Nicole Anthony, and her children Mila Anthony, Cameron Stratton, Canye Stratton, and Carmine Stratton; God Dyhu Harrison and Bigal Harrison; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Johnson III, and her son, David Eugene Kelly.
