Gladys Williams passed away on February 6, 2024. Born in Laurinburg, NC, she was the daughter of the late Willie Melvin and the late Evangeline “Peggy” Sloane, who gave her the birth name, Willie Pearl Sloane.
Gladys graduated from Scotland High School in North Carolina and later moved to Reading, PA. She worked briefly in the hospitality field.
She was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church, where she sang on the church choir and participated in many events and activities. She will always be remembered for her kindness and willingness to give of herself to help others.
Gladys was the last matriarch of the family and tried her best to keep the family together. She was always at family events and get-togethers as much as she could. When she couldn’t, she would definitely call and check on us.
She leaves to mourn her passing one son, James Franklin Sloane, Sr.; six grandchildren: Nelia Cintron, Reading, PA; Kesha (Sloane) Hall, wife of , Reading, PA; Jasma Hunt, Winston-Salem, NC; Shaylynn Harris, Winston-Salem, NC; Serena Sloane, Pittsburgh, PA; and James Jr., Williamsport, PA; eleven great-children; and one great-great grandchild.
She was predeceased by her parents and her two siblings, Willie W. Sloane and Ernestine Little.
