Edward (Ed) Aaron Mays, II was born on March 5, 1957, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He departed this life on Thursday, October 5, 2023, in Panama City, Panama.
Growing up, Ed’s Aunties Marian and Connie fondly called him “Popsicle” because he was so sweet. But Ed also had a mischievous side which caused his mom to sometimes refer to him as “Dennis the Menace”. It was not unusual to find Ed and his cousin, Andrea, planning playful pranks.
Ed was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. At the age of 5, he began playing the drums and continued playing all the way through 12th grade. Ed was also active in Boy Scouts of America achieving the rank of Life Scout which is just below Eagle Scout. He graduated from Dobbins Vocational High School in 1975. After graduation, he served in the Coast Guard as an electrician.
Ed loved cars. He also enjoyed watching and sometimes participating in drag racing. He was known as “the kid who could fix any car”. Ed also loved to cook. He was always on the lookout for new recipes to try, and it gave him great pleasure to share what he made with others.
Ed loved Jesus with his whole being, and he also loved people. He particularly enjoyed finding just the right inspirational message to send to family and friends every morning. Ed was an excellent husband, father, son, grand-pop, family member, and friend. He was a soft-spoken man who left a huge footprint for Jesus.
