Chester Davis Obituary

Chester “CT” Davis, 86, peacefully departed this earth on December 4, 2025, at the Reading Hospital. A beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend, Chester lived a full life marked by hard work, loyalty, and joy.

Born on October 9, 1939, in Florence, South Carolina, he was the son of Rosezellar Timmons-Davis and George Davis, Jr., both of whom preceded him in death. Chester received his early education in Florence County Schools and later continued in the Reading School District after relocating to Pennsylvania.

Chester held several meaningful jobs throughout his life. One of his very first was at the 3-Minute Car Wash on North 5th Street, where he learned the value of honest work. He later worked as a trash collector and spent many years employed as a machine operator at Baldwin Brass, where he was known for his reliability and strong work ethic.

Chester also served faithfully as a helper and handyman at Stokes Stitt Funeral Home, T.J. Baker Funeral Home, and Harris Funeral Home, where he took pride in assisting families and staff whenever needed. His willingness to serve made him a trusted and familiar face within the funeral service community.

A man who enjoyed life to the fullest, Chester loved to dance, socialize, and have a good time. He was a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan, supporting his team with unwavering loyalty.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Bernita Davis of Reading, PA; his daughters Victoria Childs (Jonesboro, GA) and Carmella Davis (Reading, PA); and his step-children Bernita Beddell, Lamont Morrison, Arthur Morrison, Rosetta Holmes, and Louvar Gilyard, all of Reading, PA.

Chester is also survived by his sisters: Bette Davis-Johnson (Margate, FL), Modisteen Davis (Richmond, VA), Beulah M. Little (husband Reggie Little, Atlanta, GA)

He was preceded in death by his sisters Ethel Inez Prince, Beulah M. Carter, Ruby M. Taylor, and M. Gertrude Davis; and his brothers Maxi Davis and Fred Davis (wife Reverend Minnie P. Davis).

His memory will continue through his grandchildren Kerream Jones, Karhan Jones, Keyon Childs, and Zyair Fish; his great-grandchild Zyael Fish; a host of nieces and nephews; and a loving circle of cousins who remained close throughout his life.

Chester “CT” Davis lived with laughter, and heart. His loyalty to family, friends, and community—along with his helping hands and joyful spirit—will be remembered for generations to come.
