Bertha Pinkett Obituary

Bertha “Bert” Naomi Pinkett, born Bertha Naomi Burke, was born March 7, 1923, in Reading, Pennsylvania, to Beulah B. and Charles W. Burke and was the loving devoted wife of Andrew Wesley Pinkett. On February 23, 2022, she died at the Mifflin Center, Shillington, Pennsylvania.

Bertha worked as a lab technician at ATT & Atlantic Bell. In addition, she conducted Bible studies at Bethel AME Church, studied French, and played a beautiful dual manual organ.

From 1980–to 2010, she was a member of Pioneer Charity Services and was a Telecom Educator for youth and women returning to the workforce.
She was also a decorated student for 15 years at Louise Forrest Johnson School of Dance in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Bertha and her husband “Andy” were inseparable. They dressed impeccably with matching colors. They enjoyed numerous Caribbean cruises and traveling to Hawaii.

Her passions included, first of all, her husband, all genres of music, belly dancing, jazz, ballet, and tap dancing. In addition, she enjoyed foreign language keyboards and was an avid supporter of the performing arts.

Bertha contracted COVID-19 at 97 years before the vaccine and strongly recovered. She remained positive even though she was alone, with no visitors for over two years. A reminder to all of us how mighty the “will to live” is. Anyone that knew Bertha was consumed by her signature chuckle. She governed your chucklesome without intention. It just happened.

Bertha was predeceased by her parents, Charles William and Beulah Bell Burke, her husband, Andrew Wesley Pinkett, a son, Charles Thomas Thatch, and her best friend, Jessye Evans.
She is survived by one step-daughter, Leslye A. Martin, and her husband, Lani (Hawaii)
and a loving flock of nieces and nephews, colleagues, and friends.
Visitation will be private.
