Mary’s Life Story

June 5, 1933, there was a wonderful occurrence in the city of Manchester, Georgia, the birth of Mary Emma to Hardy and Jonnie Crawl.  Mary was presented to the world to bring joy, laughter, and hope to all whom she encountered.  With God’s grace and family guidance, Mary developed into a young lady of integrity and distinction. An intellectually astute woman, Mary attended Manchester High School in Manchester, Georgia. Later in life, she was blessed with three beautiful children, Arnita, Irving (Mary) and John (deceased).  Mary established a firm spiritual foundation for her family as dedicated members of the St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Reading, under the visionary leadership of Reverend Manning (deceased) and Reverend Jerry Jones.

Mary Emma Crawl’s life story reflects many years of unyielding faith, notable accomplishments, and acts of kindness.  In her downtime, she enjoyed watching Judge Judy.

Mary Emma Crawl will be remembered as a proud matriarch with a generous heart, brilliant smile, and zest for life.  Her loving and nurturing influence radiates in the lives of everyone she touched; family, friends, neighbors, and strangers alike.

A loving mother, she leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Arnita Crawl of Reading and a son, Irving Crawl (Mary) of California. One sister, Laveren Motley (Robert) of Indiana, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her son, John Ellison and four siblings: Dorothy Copeland, Sarah Ellison, Joanne McCrory, and Hardy Ellison, Jr.
